Neurothelin: An Inducible Cell Surface Glycoprotein of Blood-Brain Barrier-specific Endothelial Cells and Distinct Neurons

چکیده

The blood-brain barrier is characterized by still poorly understood barrier and transport functions performed by specialized endothelial cells. Hybridoma technology has been used to identify a protein termed neurothelin that is specific for these endothelial cells. Neurothelin is defined by the species-specific mouse mAb lW5 raised against lentil-lectin-binding proteins of neural tissue from embryonic chick. In the posthatch chick, neurothelin expression is found on endothelial cells within the brain but not on those of the systemic vascular system. Injection of the monoclonal antibody in vivo leads to labeling of brain capillaries, indicating that the corresponding antigen is expressed on the luminal surface of brain endothelial cells. Transplantation of embryonic mouse brain onto the chick chorioallantoic membrane results in rodent brain vascularization by the avian vascular system. Subsequently, normally mAb lW5-negative endothelial cells, originating from blood vessels of the chick chorioallantoic membrane, are induced to express neurothelin when they are in contact with mouse neural

P 150: The Role of Blood Brain Barrier Restoration in the Multiple Sclerosis

Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) is a specialized non fenestrate barrier that formation by the endothelial cells and controls the transportation of the cells and molecules in to the brain. Reducing in function of BBB is one of disruptions in neurological diseases like multiple sclerosis. Endothelial progenitor cell (EPC) help to the BBB to control the diapedesis of inflammatory cells & molecules in to...

Expression of Blood-Brain Barrier Antigens in Non-Brain Derived Endothelial Cells Despite Lack of Astrocyte Interactions

Endothelial cells of different vascular beds display diverse functional and morphological characteristics. Specifically, brain-derived endothelial cells exhibit specialized properties that form the blood-brain barrier, an important structure that ensures homeostasis within the neural environment. Classic proteins associated with the blood-brain barrier include neurothelin (also known as CD147),...

P27: KCNK2 and Adhesion Molecules in an in-Vitro Blood Brain Barrier Model

Two-pore domain potassium channels, like KCNK2, are known to play an important role in inflammatory diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS). Upregulation of cellular adhesion molecules in mouse brain microvascular endothelial cells (MBMECs) of Kcnk2-/- mice resulted in elevated leukocyte trafficking into the central nervous system under inflammatory conditions. The current project aims to gain...

P 65: Soluble CD18 as an Inflammation Reducing Agent in Parkinson\'s Disease

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a very common neurodegenerative disease among the elderly population. Current treatments for Parkinson’s disease are based on symptom therapy but not the underlying cause of the disease. This disorder is caused neuronal death which triggers the activation of resident glial cells. This situation leads to neuroinflammation in the central nervous system. Activated...
